Course Details/Gold

Description (Ages 8-11)

The last group in the academy system; these swimmers are working on refining the basic
legal strokes and turns they have learned in the silver group.
Purpose: To refine strokes so participants swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and
smoothness and over greater distances or rather increase endurance.
These swimmers are aiming to reach the gold standard to qualify for Nationals and CANA
competitions.

Schedule Options:

  • 4 days/week 

Pre-requisite

  • Successful Graduation from Silver Group
  • Attend at least 4 USF Meets per year.
  • Complete 200IM under 4:30 and 200 free under 4:00 legally
  • Perform all 4 strokes legally and perform legal turns
  • Understand lane etiquette and pace clock

Our Goals

  • Have Fun!
  • Work on refining all 4 strokes, starts and turns
  • Follow basic competitive rules all the time
  • Establish regular attendance habits
  • Aim for standard PBs of 4:00 200IM

Swimmer Expectations

  • Strive to attend all workouts, when they’re not there, they’re not learning!
  • Arrive 5 minutes before dryland starts so you can start on time
  • Bring a water bottle to every workout
  • Participate at “USF Meets” and other club events or functions
  • Treat others with respect and care
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Adhere to Athlete Code of Conduct

Move ups are solely up to coaches’ discretion

Parent Expectations

  • Arrange to get your swimmer to practices and events on time
  • Contact your coach if your swimmer is going to miss workout
  • If your swimmer requires assistance with the bathroom or has behavioural issues to remain near the group but do not interfere with the workout unless approached by a
    coach
  • Contact your coach directly if you have any concerns regarding your swimmer and
    their training
  • Stay up-to-date with club news via hand-outs, emails, website, bulletin boards and/
    or communication with coaches and board.
  • Ensure all fees are paid on time and account is in order
  • Parent Participation: help out at WSA club functions, hosted events, timing at
    meets, etc…
  • Treat other parents, athletes and coaches with respect
  • Have a positive attitude and do not engage in negative gossip in the bleachers with other parents
  • Adhere to Parent Code of Conduct
